J1211

I know it's been a while since my last post but I couldn't resist this one of my son and I on the front of the same steam engine taken about 30 years apart. The front of the engine looks different, but J1211 had the streamlining added in the late 80's.

Both photos taken by their father.

Back to Viet Nam

I've been sick and haven't been out to take any new photos recently, but I created this from the off cuts of Look This Way. I remember this guy was trying to ignore me when I took the shot, but it looks more like he's posing, than ignoring...

Spider

I was taking some floral photos the other day when I found this little guy on a lily. Using Photoshop, I've zoomed right in on him, touched him up and voila...

I haven't shot anything for a few days so I thought tonight I would have a play with the Thomas and Henry shots I took a while back. I like this one in sepia. Such happy little engines!

Yes, you've seen these guys before. Here's the original Thomas and Henry shot I posted.

Wreckage - in Colour

wreckage
I wanted to re-post this photo in the original colours as I think it looks just as great in colour as the it did in the selective colouring earlier.

The colour vesrion of this photo was a bit ho-hum (pun), but I thought the round trees were preety cool.

Rowing Revisited

After some good feedback from Cyndie, I have been playing with the burn, dodge, and sponge tools in Photoshop to enhance the earlier posted version of this.

I have darkened up the background, while lightened up the boat to show more detail and saturated the pink in her jacket. I think it is quite an improvement. What do you think?

I'm not sure of the name of this tree, but it vivaciously stood out against the greenery of the surrounding trees. Magnificent.

*Update: Thanks to Cyndie, I'm pretty sure it is called a Japanese Maple.

Going Away

Sorry folks, I'm going away to the Hawkes Bay for the next ten days. Unfortunately I will not have internet access, so no more photos, comments or visits from me until I get back next Thursday.

Take care, and look forward to the photos that I post on my return on September 14th.

Angles

I've just finished reading an article about different techniques to produce a B&W with Photoshop. One of these techniques is to use the monochrome feature of the channel mixer and then slide the red, green and blue channels until you achieve the desired effect.

In the top photo I was emphasizing on the contrast of the sky, but to the detriment of the walls looking dirty.

The next photo was lightening up the walls and at the same time removing the focus from the sky to the building.

UFOs?

A friend of mine has just taught me about the "duo-tone" function in Photoshop CS2. I was planning to post this in B&W but I think the duo-tone of the bark colouring is much more effective.
